A photographic cross-section visualization of Highway 48 in a semi-rural area near Georgina, Ontario, shown as a real-world scene rather than a drawing. The camera is positioned at a low angle from the roadside, capturing two resurfaced lanes with dark, smooth asphalt, wide paved shoulders, and a shallow drainage ditch lined with short grass and native shrubs. Utility poles run parallel to the road, receding into the distance under bright but slightly diffused midday sunlight. The sky is pale blue with thin clouds, giving a clear, neutral light that reveals pavement texture and roadside grading. The composition uses the road edge as a strong leading line, creating a clean, technical yet realistic atmosphere suited to explaining typical section improvements.

Study Overview

The Highway 48 Preliminary and Detail Design Study includes resurfacing along Highway 48 and intersection improvements along Highway 48 and Old Homestead Road in the Town of Georgina, Ontario. The study will identify and develop design solutions that enhance safety, improve pavement condition, and support the long-term operation of the transportation corridor while considering environmental, social, and economic factors.

What Stage Are We In?

The Highway 48 Project is currently in the Preliminary Design phase.

During this stage, the project team is:

  • Collecting and reviewing existing conditions data
  • Undertaking environmental, engineering, traffic, and safety studies
  • Developing and evaluating design alternatives
  • Engaging with Indigenous communities, agencies, municipalities, stakeholders, and the public
  • Identifying a preferred design solution

Information gathered during this phase will help inform the development of the final design.
